EVERYBODY IS A STAR. ✨ We were thrilled to host our friends and fellow midcentury lovers @1957housedownsouth and couldn’t resist passing along their kind words. Pop over to @1957housedownsouth to follow along with their amazing restoration projects! ・・・ The Starlight. 🔸️ The restoration of the Starlight Motor Inn is so impressive that I decided it needed a permanent place on the grid. Located in North Charleston and built in 1961, it was the first modular construction motel in the South. The modular units were shipped in by train and then assembled. The newspaper reported on the construction, calling it an "instant motel." 🔸️ While once abandoned, it was placed on the National Register in 2020 and restored in 2022. If you're planning a trip to Charleston, this is a must see. We thoroughly enjoyed the hospitality we received during our visit. The swallow illustration nods to the bird’s burgundy throat and a tattoo tradition among sailors in which every swallow represents 5,000 miles. Alright, Starlight!!! ✨✨✨ #Repost @postandcourier with @use.repost ・・・ A historic, mid-century motel is ready to welcome travelers in North Charleston once again — this time with a new look, new owners and a new name. With pink stucco walls, decorative brick and a new marquee sign topped with a star, the Starlight Motor Inn is hard to miss along Rivers Avenue. The property underwent an extensive restoration effort by business partners Ham Morrison and Walker Lamond to create a space that transports travelers back to the Charleston area in the 1960s. When Morrison heard that the property faced an uncertain future in 2019 he called Lamond with a “crazy idea”: save and restore a 60-year-old property to a more-modern version of its former glory. The original motel was built in 1961 on the site of Woody Rogers’ Studebaker dealership.
